GDES 125 - Project 4: Seven Heavenly Virtues

Project 4 we had to choose either the Seven Deadly Sins or the Seven Heavenly Virtues. We created a composition for each of sins/virtues. This project also will display our ability to combine both analogue and digital methods. Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign were used to create the compositions. We then created a document and printed it on tabloid newspaper on 55gsm paper. All of the compositions were made with my photography, found photography used from Pexels, Unsplash, or found photography, and compositions/illustrations I made analogue and digitally. This project was printed by the Newspaperclub located in London.

In this project, I chose to do the Seven Heavenly Virtues, and have a theme of nature throughout the compositions.
Here is a list of the sins and what kind of compositions I used...
Chastity: found print / collage
Temperance: typography based
Charity: personal photograph, full color
Diligence: personal photograph, duotone
Patience: found object
Kindness: found image with handwritten type
Humility: constructed image, type included

Here's a link to my Dropmark.

My Top 3:
The Virtue of Chastity: I found the photos on Pexel and Unsplash, and cut them out then glued them on tabloid paper. I also used flower stickers and paper flowers to surround the women.
The Virtue of Charity: I asked my friend and cousin to get a photo of their hands reaching to be receiving a flower. I used Photoshop to have their hands and the bouquet of flowers all placed together. Erasing the background to only have a selected subject was difficult but worked out eventually.
The Virtue of Patience: I loved this image because it's impressive that a statue of Buddha head is surrounded by the roots of a Bayan Tree. Bayan trees are known to be very old and take time to grow.
